Deciding if you really should buy that puppy from a local 'home' breeder, or a store, or if you should meet that person in the parking lot, or even picking the right purebred breeder is important. You want to make sure that anyone breeding puppies is responsible, cares for their dogs, and will be a valued resource for you throughout your dog’s life. And of course, you want to make sure that you are bringing home the best puppy possible, without unintentionally supporting a puppy mill that can keep breeding pairs in a solitary, unhealthy and filthy situation. We know you don't want to be a part of that, and that your love of dogs will encourage you to make the right decision, for not just the puppy, but also for the quality of life of the 'breeding pair'.

But how do you find a responsible breeder? Have this list of these questions handy to get to know your breeder, your breed, and your potential puppy better. A reputable breeder will have the answer and will even respect your diligence; an unethical breeder will likely refuse to answer your questions, or may even hang up on you. That would give you all the information you need.
